MRS. GAVIN'S BIO
Hello! Students and parents always seem to enjoy knowing a little about their teacher outside of the school setting. Hopefully this will allow you to get to know a little bit more about me as your child's teacher.
My name is:
Melissa Gavin
I am from the Orange County area of CA where I grew up in a wonderful family of 4. I have one younger sister named Jennifer who is a Registered Nurse. I moved to Riverside County in the Spring of 1994.
I am married to the most wonderful man named Steve. In June of 2007 we started our lives together! Steve is a small business owner.
Our oldest son, Matthew, is 11 and loves to play baseball! Our second son, Jacob, is 8 and loves to cuddle and play with Legos. Our last edition, Caleb, is 6 and already loves to throw a ball around.
We currently live with our dogs Gunther and Gracie and our cat Pierre.
I graduated from California Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree in 2002. I then went on to receive my teaching credential from Chapman University in 2003 followed shortly by a Master of Arts degree in Teaching in 2004. In the Spring of 2006, I completed my Tier 1 Administrative Services Credential. This is my 16th year at Harmony and I am once again happily and passionately teaching 4th grade!
My hobbies include: spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping, going to the river/beach/mountains/desert, and well pretty much anything outdoors! I love being the team mom of Matthew and Jacob's baseball teams. Also, I enjoy going to church, drinking coffee at little coffee shops, shopping, watching the T.V. shows 'Friends' and 'I Love Lucy', reading, listening to music and swimming.
My path towards teaching has been an uphill journey, in the sense that it has not always been smooth or direct. There have been times when the tragedies that exist in society have caused me to question my ability to make a substantial impact, but then something will happen to remind me of the great opportunities that exist in teaching. If I am able to inspire, motivate, and encourage just one student then I have made a valuable impression on that individual’s life. Children need role models that can share their love of learning, and their enthusiasm for exploration and discovery. I want to be part of creating and supporting an environment that allows this to happen each and every day in each and every child. I have a need to be involved in a profession that allows me to grow and challenge myself over time, and I believe teaching has been the ideal place to do this. It is a field I am passionate about, and I look forward to continuing it in your child’s school for years and traditions to come.
